Betty Jean Humphreys

Betty Jean Humphreys was born March 16, 1929 in Faye, Oklahoma to Orval H. and Esther V. (Owings) Arnett. She was welcomed into her Heavenly home on Monday, August 8, 2022 in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 93.Jean would be the oldest of 7 children. At a young age, she helped her family by cooking and watching her other siblings. Jean attended 1st grade in Eagle City, Oklahoma. When she was 7 years old, she and her family moved to Chino Valley, Arizona and attended 2nd thru 8th grade. 9th & 10th grade in Prescott, Arizona and 11th in Southard, Oklahoma. She married the love of her life, Delmer L. Humphreys on June 20, 1946 in Enid, Oklahoma. To this union was born 6 children. Jean devoted her life to the Lord and her family. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church and cooked the meals at Falls Creek for 52 years. She also cooked for the Wednesday Family meal at the church until her retirement. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She loved the Lord and shared her love with everyone she came in contact with. She passed that love along to her children and grandchildren. She always had a hug and smile waiting on each one of us and listen to what was going on in our lives. She supported everyone and always found the good in people. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and best of friend.Jean and Delmer traveled all over the country with his work. She always had a story to tell about each state they were in and of course, learning a new "dish" to try on her family when they would get together. Holidays were always a must. The whole family would usually gather at her house for a wonderful fellowship and story telling. Nobody could make homemade rolls and dressing like she did. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she loved to play dirty santa. There was always a couple of the family members that would take her gift, even though they didn't want it, just to aggravate her but in the end they would always give it back to her.Jean enjoyed walking and reading. She loved to be outside enjoying the fresh air and beauty of the day or nestled in a comfy chair to enjoy a good book. She loved the exercise and working towards her weight loss goals she would set. Her hobbies included cooking, crocheting dolls, traveling and putting together puzzles.Jean was once asked the question: What special message would you like to leave for your descendants? Her response was, "First of all that all would know Jesus Christ personally. To always be truthful. To respect themselves and to love others." She was a wonderful role model and set a solid foundation for us to grow on. She leaves us with so many wonderful memories that will be cherished forever and to share with others.Our hearts are broken but we know she was ready to meet the Lord and is celebrating with other family members and friends that she has greatly missed. We are sure she is already preparing for our arrival. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Judy Martin & Ray of New Castle, Sue Chaney & Jackie of Chickasha, Barbara Anthony & Larry of Snellville, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Ronda Humphreys of Atoka; son-in-law, Roy Ross of Carnegie; 2 sisters: Joyce Culp & Robert of Arizona & Bonnie McGrew of Arizona; sister-in-law, Dorres Coats of Elko, Nevada; 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, her church family, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.Jean is preceded in death by her father, Orval Arnett; mother and stepfather, Esther and John Coats; husband, Delmer Humphreys; daughter, Phyllis Jean Ross; son's, Gale Humphreys and Orville Humphreys; grandson, Linny Petty, son-in-law, Roy Martin; 3 brothers: Larry, Bobby and Billy and sister, Nina Fish.Visitation will be held at McRay Funeral Home on Saturday, August 12 from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. and Sunday, August 13 from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 15, 2022 at the College Heights Baptist Church in Chickasha. Bro. Bryan Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha.
