Fern (Burch) Sahmaunt

Fern (Burch) Sahmaunt was born on July 14, 1926, at home in Katie, Oklahoma, to Almon Jasper “AJ” and Pearl Imo (Grimes) Burch. She entered her eternal rest on August 12, 2024, at home in Anadarko, Oklahoma, at the age of 98. Fern was a graduate of the Elmore City High School in Elmore City, Oklahoma. She received her Bachelor of Education from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Fern served as a teacher in Allen and Anadarko for twenty-years before retirement. Fern married Daniel Evans Sahmaunt on August 14, 1948, in Ada, Oklahoma. Together they had six children, Dana, Katie, Kim, Mark, Jay, and Andrea. They celebrated fifty-nine years together before Daniels passing in April 2008. Fern was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Anadarko for many years. She was a godly example of what a Christian woman should be. She proudly served on several boards and committees within the church. She loved the Lord and doing His work. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, AJ and Pearl Burch, husband, Daniel Sahmaunt, son, Jay Stephen Sahmaunt, brother Jack Burch and wife Jean, and sisters, Joene Casey, and Faye Landis and husband Milton. Left to cherish the memory of Fern is her son, Mark Sahmaunt and wife Amy of Anadarko, her daughters, Dana Stevens and husband Tony of Tupelo, Katie Sahmaunt and husband David Otero of Lakeside, Arizona, Kim Sahmaunt and husband Jay Stafford of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Andrea Sahmaunt-Tiger of Jenks, Oklahoma, her seven grandchildren, Jennifer Stevens and husband Dean Sliger, Jessica Sliger and husband Chris, Marcia Sahmaunt, Jacob Sahmaunt and wife Kateri, Eli Otero, Maya White, Feliz Otero, Gabrielle Tiger, Juliet Tiger, and six great grandchildren, Kate and Liz Sliger, Ava and Eli Sliger, and Marcus and Micah Sahmaunt. Visitation for Fern is set to be held from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on August, 15, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service for Fern is set to begin at 2:00 PM on August 16, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Anadarko. She will be laid to rest following the service at the Mount Scott Kiowa Tribal Cemetery in Meers. Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
