Herman Ray Myers

The 8th and final child of JW and Maudie Myers, the end of an era that survived the Great Depression, the Boom, and the Bust, has made his way to his heavenly home.With his grandchildren sitting bedside, Herman Ray Myers, born on November. 26, 1938, and better known as Poppy to those who knew him best, peacefully left this earth on August. 25, 2022.While he may have been the baby of his family, Herman never lacked in grit, toughness, hard work or commitment. In fact, he was far from that when it came to how he would raise his children, grandson, farm, ranch, and business own. He was hard work personified, even telling his grandkids it was time to get to work just days before his death.Making his home on a hill south of town with his beloved bride, Onella, whom he married on June 30, 1956, Herman set out to live up to the name "Myers" in all he did.Farming, ranching, water well drilling and the like filled his days and nights, as he and Onella built their lives in a house that he helped build with his own two hands. If those two hands couldn't accomplish a task, bailing wire or duct tape would do just the trick. Electrical tape even worked for mending wounds, because there was work to be done. Never one to read an instruction manual, Herman was known for his ability to figure things out. He thought he could do anything, and he really could.Herman knew a little bit about everything, and "buy it cheap" seemed to work well for the rancher as he taught his grandson, son-in-law, and anyone who would listen the Myers way of farming and ranching. No one ever knew Herman to not get a good deal. He was cheap. He was stubborn. He had a way of doing things, and it was quite brilliant. Always the calmest man in the room, that calm assurance in all scenarios would always keep his family at ease. Everything always turned out okay, and he was usually the only person convinced of that solid truth.He served the citizens of Caddo County on the CK Energy board for 30 years. Providing insight and wisdom to a board of directors and serving the citizens of the county in electricity distribution was an area of pride and service for Herman. Though he would laugh until he cried if his hired hand got bit by a little bolt of electricity, he took that role very seriously as he served the patrons of Caddo County.Because he knew he could do anything, he would try just about anything. Once he got himself into pig farming, found a dump truck full of hard candy, had it crushed and mixed into the pig feed, and then sold the pigs high, never entering the pig farming business again. He decided to stick with bovine.Myers Water Well Drilling even provided an opportunity to prove his water-well witching skills, pointing out quality drilling spots for the business during the Boom of the 80's.Once he got something in his mind, he set out to do it, and he did it well. Herman never lacked follow through. From raising two daughters and a grandson, he modeled hard work every single day of his life. Just days before his death he was telling his grandson what to do with some equipment.The man never stopped. Just before entering the nursing home he was telling his grandson of his plan to buy some more cows. He thoroughly enjoyed his work. He had it all lined out in his mind. Now, he resides with the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills. (Psalm 50:10) Greeting him upon his arrival in heaven were his bride, Onella, daughter Rayenell, seven brothers, his Momma, and his Daddy.Those surviving are one daughter, Traci Jones and husband, RJ, grandson DeeJay Henderson and wife Meredith, granddaughter DeAnne Schultz and husband Kevin, granddaughter Amanda Carlile and husband Brock, great grandsons Aydan, Ryker, Gavin, and Luke, great granddaughters Emilee, Katie, Ava, Ellie and Britton, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 30, 2022, First Baptist Church, Anadarko, OKOfficiating: Rev.
