Melinda Lou Deer-Bohnett October 2, 1955 — October 23, 2025 Melinda Lou Deer-Bohnett, of Verden, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center. She was born on October 2, 1955, to George and Betty Keah-tigh Deer, in Los Angeles, California. She was Muscogee Creek on her father’s side and Kiowa on her mother’s side. She was an enrolled member of the Kiowa Tribe. Melinda attended and graduated from Capitol Hill High School with the Class of 1973. After high school, Melinda worked for many years at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in SW Oklahoma City. It is at the FAA that she met the love of her life, Mr. David Bohnett, and got married on August 30, 1984. In her spare time, she loved spending time with her friends and family, traveling, and listening to music and was an avid supporter of Animal Shelters adopting four beloved dogs Goldie, Tah-lee, Coco and Polly whom she spoiled with all her might and one cat Chai who adopted Melinda. Melinda loved her fur babies, and her kind heart and good soul shown in her generosity supporting charities for animals of all kinds. She was especially fond of those animals with disabilities and supported and loved many animals on-line and in person. Survivors include her sister Mary Helen Deer, brother Alvin Deer, COUSINS Andrea Deer, Judy Fawn Lester KnifeChief, Paul and Susie Keahtigh, Margaret and Dale Keahtigh Dorsey, Frank Nelson, Denise Keahtigh Sellers, “Tigh” Keahtigh Kodasset Clark, Surviving nephews and nieces include Linn David Deer, Georgia Deer, Genny Deer, Rachel Deer, Melvin Deer, Jr., Raymond Deer, Daniel Allrunner, Darlene Vega, and Bonnie Keahtigh, Paul III Keahtigh, Matt Keahtigh, Rainelle Keahtigh, Josiah Dorsey, Alex Horne, Cody Horne, Danielle Horne, Karen and Jayson Amos. She is Preceded in death by her husband David Bohnett, father George Deer, Jr., her mother Betty Keah-tigh Clemons, her sister Paula Reeder, grandparents Frank and Margaret Keahtigh, grandmother Lillian Deer, aunt Odessa Keahtigh Amos, aunt Evelyn Deer Lester, brother Melvin Deer, Sr., cousins David “Beaver” Lester, Nephews Steven Smith, and Chris Smith, niece Michelle Fern Deer, and Jay Amos The Redstone Church is located at 34036 CS 2600, Anadarko, OK, off of Hwy 9 by Apache Y. Interment will be at the Anadarko Memory Lane Cemetery after services. Dinner to follow at the Anadarko Christian Center, 225 E Main St, Anadarko, OK 73005 Pallbearers include Nephews: Linn Deer, grandsons Alex and Nick Hernandez, plus Friends: Tyler Anderson, Zane Gaines and Houston Miller.
