Ronald Gene Merritt Jr

Ronald Gene "Ronnie" Merritt Jr., 37 of Fort Cobb, Oklahoma was called home by the Lord on Monday, July 23, 2012 at Alex, Oklahoma. He was born April 6, 1975 to Ronald Gene and Cindy (Perkins) Merritt Sr in Carnegie, Oklahoma. He attended school and graduated from Carnegie High School with the class of 1993. He went to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland for a semester then returned home to start his career in EMS and firefighting. He worked for the Anadarko fire department and the Lawton fire department for several years. He married Jennifer Granger in 1998 and to this union was born 3 sons. In 2009, Ronnie was united with his daughter, Ashlee Butler Merritt. Ronnie started working in the oilfield industry and had worked himself up to the Company Man for Continental Oil Company where he currently was working for. Ronnie was a very dependable, hard working, caring and compassionate man. He would do anything to help family, a friend or even a stranger in need. He was a wonderful son, brother, father and friend. He loved his children and spending as much time with them as he could. He would surprise them at times and take all of them on unexpected vacations that they all enjoyed. He coached his son's summer league baseball team (Anadarko PeeWee Purple) and chasing after the other 3 in their activities. His hobbies included snow skiing, pheasant and coon hunting, which he taught all his kids and they loved to do also and just spending time with family. He was a member of the NREMT and the Fly Inn Fire Department since 1992. Survivors include his children: Ronald Gene "Trey" Merritt III, Benjamin Lane Merritt and Jacob Walden Merritt of Anadarko and Ashlee Butler Merritt of Carnegie; his parents, Ronald Gene & Cindy Merritt of Anadarko, the mother of his children, Jennifer Merritt of Anadarko; sister, Christie & husband, Matthew Massey of Bridge Creek; 3 aunts: Sandra Little of Weatherford, Debbie & husband, Johnny Matlock of Anadarko & Becky Perkins of Anadarko; 2 uncle's, Randy & wife, Debbie Perkins of Springfield, Missouri and Roger Karshnock & wife, Pam of Michigan. Niece, Harlie Glidewell; 3 nephews: Taln Glidewell, Dace Granger & C.J. Cook; grandparents: Bob & Donita Perkins of Anadarko; in-laws: Connie Mills, Ed & April Granger;2 brothers-in-law, Zach Barger & Randall & wife, Mandy Granger; sister-in-law, Kelsey Granger, numerous cousins, other relatives and many many friends. Ronnie is preceded in death by his grandparents: Kenneth Merritt and Inez Karshnock and uncle, Kenny Merritt Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, Fort Cobb, Oklahoma with Rev. Ray Weathers officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Fort Cobb under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Anadarko, Oklahoma.
