Ronald "Ronnie" Gene Merritt

Ronald "Ronnie" Gene Merritt Sr., 78 of Anadarko, Oklahoma, passed away on February 3, 2018 at his home while continuing to live his life to the fullest even after being diagnosed with cancer. Ronnie was born July 31, 1939 to Kenneth and Inez (Hollaway) Merritt. He was raised in and around the Carnegie/Fort Cobb area before going into the Marines in 1957. After being honorably discharged in 1963, Ronnie went to Michigan where his mom was and then back to Carnegie. He built and raced cars, worked in many shops and owned/operated his own club out by Fort Cobb Lake where he met his love of 43 years, Cindy (Perkins) Merritt. They were married on July 15, 1974 and to that young love, one son, Ronnie Gene Merritt Jr. and one daughter, Christie (Merritt) Massey was born.In 1978, he started his life long career in the oilfield, where for the last 33 years he worked for Weatherford International as a Fishing Tool Supervisor where he was on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, just recently retiring in June 2017. Ronnie definitely left boots that will never be able to be filled. Ronnie was an avid horseman. He enjoyed raising horses and watching them race. Ronnie shared his love of coon hunting with his wife and kids where that same love continues in his grandchildren today. He also enjoyed going in as farming/cattle partners with his children. Ronnie was a dad and papa that would always teach his kids and grandkids the things they didn't necessarily need to know, but that is what made them love him so much. He will be leaving a huge void in all the hearts that knew and loved him.Ronnie is survived by his wife, Cindy, of the home; daughter, Christie Massey and husband, Matthew of Verden; grandchildren: Ashlee Guitierrez and husband, Ricki of Hydro, Ronald Gene Merritt III "Trey" of Anadarko, Harlie Glidewell of Verden, Benjamin Merritt of Anadarko, Taln Glidewell of Verden, Jake Merritt of Anadarko and a special "like" granddaughter, Bristol Faith Walters; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Merritt of Anadarko; one brother, Roger Karshnock and wife Pam of Michigan; one sister-in-law, Becky Perkins of Anadarko and niece, Rechelle Walters; two brothers-in-law, Johnny Matlock of Anadarko and Randy Perkins and wife, Debbie of Lockwood, Missouri; two uncles: Henry Perkins and wife, Cheryl of Texas and Leroy Love and wife, Linda of Anadarko; several nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and many friends.Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronnie Gene Merritt Jr.; two brothers, Kenny Merritt and Randy Karshnock and sister, Sandra Little.Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Bethel Baptist Church in Anadarko. Rev. Glen Alley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Cobb.
