Roy D. Martin

On April 17, 1949 in Blanchard, Oklahoma, Roy Dale Martin Sr. made his entrance into this world. He was the son of Andrew L. and Bessie (Allensworth) Martin. On Sunday, March 25, 2018 he made his entrance into his Heavenly Kingdom. He lived and attended school in Newcastle and graduated with the class of 1967. He married Judy Humphreys in Chickasha, Oklahoma on February 9, 1968. While in the Army, he and Judy were blessed with two children, Angie and Roy Jr. He joined the U.S. Army on June 6, 1968, during the Vietnam War. He served our country proudly and received an honorable discharged on June 25, 1971. He and his family moved back to New Castle and continued to live there. He worked 17 years with the New Castle Little League, and also served on New Castle City Council for 5 years. Roy had a strong passion to help kids. He absolutely loved them. He was very active with his kids as well whether it was sports, stock shows or just hanging out at home. He and Judy decided to open up a game center because they wanted a safe, fun environment for all to come to and have a good time to relax, play games, eat and just enjoy each others company. Their door was always open and to help others to come to know the Lord. Roy would help anybody any time of the day. All it took was a phone call and he was there. He had a contagious smile and laugh that would brighten up any room. He loved to pull pranks and just have a good time. When his grandchildren came along, his world was turned upside down. He loved his grandchildren, spending time with them and just flat out spoiling them. Roy worked as a truck driver most of his life. The last 15 years he drove all over the United States. He retired March 2008. When asked what he was gonna do now, his response was "Just Movin On" and that's just what he did. He was a member of the Woodland Hills Baptist Church and was the sole benefactor in organizing the mens prayer breakfast that was and still continues to be on Friday's and a lifelong member of Post 3608 of The VFW. Roy was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, cousin and friend. He has left so many memories for us to cherish and share with one another. What a blessed gift! He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Judy of the home; son, Roy Dale Martin Jr and wife, Dena of Tuttle, Oklahoma; daughter, Angie D. Martin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Daphaine Martin of Purcell, Oklahoma, Joshua and Jena Martin of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Chayse Martin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Blake, Cole and Cassandra Tompkins of Tuttle, Oklahoma; brothers: Devohn M. Martin and wife, Doris of New Castle, Oklahoma and Herbert Ray Martin and wife, Lois of Newcastle, Oklahoma; sisters: Gladys Shay of New Castle, Oklahoma and Ola Mae Vickery of Tuttle, Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Betty Jean Humphreys of Chickasha, Oklahoma; 2 special nieces: Morgan Martin of Edmond, Oklahoma and Mariah Martin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Bessie Martin; brother, Leon Martin; sister, Mary Ellen Smith; nice, Janis Martin; father-in-law, Delmer Humphreys and nephew, Linny D. Petty. Visitation will be held at the Wilson Little Funeral Home in New Castle. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 - 8:00, Wednesday 9:00 - 8:00 with the family greeting guests on Wednesday, 6:00 to 8:00.Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Woodland Hills Baptist Church west of New Castle. Rev. Bruce Christian will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle. Military honors will be provided by the Fort Sill Honor Guard.
