Roy Matthew Strickland

Roy M. Strickland was born September 9, 1940 in Jacksboro, Texas to Sanford Roy and Lucille (Isaacs) Strickland. Roy was called home by the Lord on Monday, June 27, 2022 in Grove, Oklahoma at the age of 81.Roy and his family moved to Oklahoma in 1950. LIke most families, they lived on a farm and farming was life. He started driving a tractor at the age of 6 so he could do just about anything that needed done. He attended school through the 8th grade at Cement, Oklahoma.Roy met and married the love of his life, Verdia Taylor on November 18, 1961 in Apache, Oklahoma. To this union was born 4 children. He worked for Caddo County District 2 and 3 as a road grader maintainer. He retired in 2004 after 36 years of dedicated service.Roy was a family man. He was a provider, caring, and a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend. He enjoyed family time and especially going to the lake. Pulling the kids on tubes was a joy. He would drive fairly fast, slinging you out so hard but was enjoyed by all. He almost sunk the boat a couple times having to much fun. Roy will be greatly missed but has left us so many wonderful memories for us to remember and cherish.Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Sanford Roy Strickland; mother & father-in-law, Edna and Glen Taylor; sisters: LeElla Adams, Tereasa Downing; sister & brother-in-law, Genell Taylor & Don Taylor, sister & brother-in-law, Lucille Taylor & Dale Taylor; brother, Charles Ray Strickland; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Odis & Pearl Taylor; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Marie & Freeman Evans; brother-in-law, Verl Bare; nieces, April Adams & Christina Taylor and nephew, Timothy Burks.Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Verdia of the home; 2 daughters: Debbie Wiles of Anadarko, Sheila Aldridge & husband, Wesley of Apache; 2 sons: Troy Strickland & wife, Catherine of Anadarko, Michael Strickland of Byars; 21 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, sister & brother-in-law, Lois & Hermon Ratliff of Fort Cobb; sister, Mildred Martin of Jay, and sister-in-law, Paula Bare of Binger; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many friends. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 30, 2022 at the Pleasant View Cemetery, south of Fort Cobb.
