Sean Rivera

Sean Rivera was born March 27, 1978, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Edwin Mitchell Rivera and Mary Ann Prentiss. He passed from this life too soon on September 19, 2024, in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 46. Sean was a man who was so much more than a barber, brother, father, son, and friend. He was a pillar of strength, compassion, and love; someone who touched the lives of so many with his generous heart and unwavering kindness. Growing up together with Sean in Fort Cobb, at Waides Edition, are some of the best memories. Sean was a proud graduate of the Class of 1996, and loved basketball. His love for basketball never faded, just like his love for the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Sooners. But Sean wasn’t just an athlete or a sports fan. He was the BEST old-school barber ever. He was someone who made people look good on the outside and feel even better on the inside. Sean spent over 15 years in Norman, where he built a home—not just for himself but for everyone who needed a shoulder to lean on or an encouraging word. He had an innate gift for making people feel special, no matter who they were or where they came from. From the rich to the less fortunate, Sean could connect with anyone, and he made sure to lift up those who needed it most. Sean had a heart of gold, always finding ways to help the homeless and the less fortunate, by showing up and cutting hair for free in his community. He did so with the same passion and drive that he showed in every other part of his life. Sean was a role model, a problem solver, a confidence builder, and a cultural influencer. He made every room brighter with his humor, his warmth, and his infectious smile. And let’s not forget Sean’s love for good food and wine. He enjoyed cooking, trying new dishes, and tasting wines, all while cracking jokes and making sure everyone around him was smiling. Sean loved hard, and he cared deeply—especially for his family. He adored his mother, his father, his daughter, his brothers, and his entire family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Sean’s love extended to all his friends too, who became part of his extended family. Sean was a storyteller, a teacher, an advocate for mental wellness, and a true fashion trendsetter. He had style, he had grace, and he had a way of making the people around him believe in themselves. Sean was a connector, a mediator, and above all, a man who lived with purpose and passion. Sean was a member of the Apache tribe of Oklahoma, as well as a descendant of the Kiowa and Comanche tribes. He was also of Puerto Rican heritage. Today, we grieve the loss of an incredible soul, but we also celebrate the legacy Sean leaves behind. He taught us all what it means to live fully, to love fiercely, and to give back without expecting anything in return. Though our hearts are heavy, we carry forward the lessons Sean gave us—the strength, the love, and the unshakeable belief in the goodness of people. Rest in peace, Sean Rivera. Your light will never dim, and your spirit will live on in all of us. We love you, and we will miss you always. Left to cherish Sean’s memory are his father, Edwin and wife, Fawn Rivera of Lawton, Oklahoma, his mother, Mary Prentiss of Anadarko, Oklahoma, his daughter, Memfiss Denaé Rivera of Carnegie, Oklahoma, his brothers, Daniel Rivera of Anadarko, Oklahoma, and Kevin and wife, Holly Rivera of Mulhall, Oklahoma, his nieces, Shayden Rivera of Anadarko, Oklahoma, and Kinley Rivera of Mulhall, Oklahoma, his nephew, Dreyton Rivera of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, his great-niece, Daylin Rivera of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, his special first cousins who were almost like siblings, Josh, Michael, Arthur, Isaac, Ralphie, Manny, Victor, David, Hector Jr., Butch, Thomas, Joey, Sumatie, Inez, Jicky, Monica, and a multitude of family and friends. Sean is preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Marie Rivera, his paternal grandparents, Victor and Stella (Tsatoke) Rivera, his maternal grandparents, Reuben and Valerie (Pewenofkit) Prentiss, his nephew, Kenny Eaglehart, his aunt, Sandra Prentiss, and his cousins, Monica Prentiss, Theresa Prentiss, Tiffany Rain Salazar, and Randy Jessepe. A prayer service for Sean will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Grace Christian Fellowship in Anadarko, Oklahoma. A funeral service to honor the life of Sean is set to begin at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Grace Christian Fellowship. He will be laid to rest following the service at Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
