Thelma Rose Walker

Thelma Rose Lucas Walker was born June 13, 1926 to John and Opal Bertha Milar Lucas in Anadarko, Oklahoma. She married James L. Walker in Anadarko, Oklahoma. the following children were born to this union: Michael Wayne Walker, Anita Sue Walker Matlock and Deborah Lynne Walker Gerst. The only time she ever lived anywhere else that Anadarko, in her 94 years was during James Naval days during WWII and they were stationed in Key West, Florida.She had worked all her life until forced to retire from the Anadarko Public Schools after a long term illness. She had many life long friends. If you were ever one of Thelma's friends, you will always be. To our knowledge only a few of the Anadarko High School class of 1944 still exist, maybe 3. in later years her telephone was her best friend being somewhat confined to her house. The last 3 years she was confined to a wheel chair, but she planted and scratched the dirt by hand to grow beautiful flowers to die for. "Can't" was never in Thelma's vocabulary.She had many church friends being a member of the 1st Christian Church in Anadarko all of her life. She truly loved them all. A very special thanks goes out to Teresa Moser, Judy Cain and Ruby Adams.Thelma is preceded in death by her mom and dad, John and Opal Lucas; big brother who finally found her in their 90's, Frank Lowry; sister, Mildred Lucas Hill; brother-in-law, Kenneth Hill; baby brother, Robert A Lucas (Bobby) and her late son-in-law, Gary Gerst.She is survived by her sister, Berniece Lucas Sansing Roney/Gordon of Prattville, Alabama; her children: Michael and wife Laura Walker of Allen, Texas, Anita Sue Matlock and husband, Donald of Anadarko, Oklahoma and Deborah Lynne Gerst and John Reese of Anadarko, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren: Michelle Matlock and Justin Demattie of Anadarko, Beth and Matt Veasel of Richardson, Texas, April (Gerst) McCann and Greg of Edmond, Jason and Alison Gerst of Stratford, Brian and Jessica Murray of Texas and Michelle and Mark Hillin of Illinois; 10 great grandchildren: Aspen and Seth Austin of Edmond, Corbin McCann of Edmond, Brendon Taylor and Taylor Holmes of Chickasha, Brittany Taylor and Cole Kirby, Stacie Demattic, Averie Turley of Edmond, Kodi Gerst, Jude Gerst and Knox Gerst of Stratford, Erika and Alex Sage of Gracemont; the newest love of Thelma's life, great great granddaughter, Kynzleigh Taylor, being the sunshine of Thelma's eye. She had many kids whom she claimed as well and took under her wings.
