Obituary for George Kermit Smith

George Kermit Smith, 73, of Anadarko, Oklahoma departed this life surrounded by his loving family on September 6, 2019 after a brief illness.
He was born on May 23, 1946 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Andy and Dorothy Smith. He graduated from Anadarko High School in 1964. In 1967 he enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as an X-Ray Technician, in the Med Corps. Upon his discharge in 1969 from the Army, George resided in Los Angeles, California for a time continuing his work as an X-Ray technician. He moved to New Mexico to enroll in the Physician’s Assistant Program at the University of New Mexico, from which he graduated from. While attending school he met his wife, Grace Bennett of Gallup, New Mexico. In his time of being a traveling PA for the Indian Health Services, George and Grace had three children Sheri, Damon, and Kermit, before they moved back permanently to Anadarko, Oklahoma.
George was OU Football Team’s “No. 1 Fan”, in which he enjoyed watching their games with his family every time they played. George was not only a husband, a father, a brother and PA. First and foremost, he was a God fearing man who loved serving his Heavenly Father. He loved working and fellowshipping with the youth of the church throughout the years from the time he moved back to Anadarko until his illness. George was a Deacon and proud member of Wichita Community Church. He loved to sing and lead worship, fellowshipping with others, and serving his Christian brothers and sisters as His Heavenly Father led him to do. George loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter Luciana, listening to music, reminiscing about “the good ole days”. Attending his grandchildren’s special events, reading his Bible, helping with anything that needed to be done at church.
George is survived by one sister, Rhetta Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico. One daughter Sheri Smith of Anadarko, Oklahoma. Son Damon and wife Lois Smith of Anadarko, Oklahoma; their children Kachina and husband Brian Alvarado, their daughter Luciana Marie and one grandson on the way. Karen Roughface, Xavier Smith, Logan Smith, and nieces Ale, Corian, and Claira. Son Kermit and wife Shauna Smith; their children Mikele Smith, Olivia Greeley, Wicapi Smith, and Sakaia Greeley. Numerous nieces and nephews, and adopted grandchildren. George is preceded in death by his parents Andy and Dorothy Smith. His wife Grace Smith, and brothers Barry, Lawrence, and Donnie.
