Obituary for JoAnn McCauley

JoAnn “Nana” McCauley, 79, of Fort Cobb, OK died peacefully in her sleep on February 3, 2019 at Carnegie Tri-County Municipal Hospital in Carnegie, OK.
JoAnn was born in Non, Oklahoma on January 2, 1940 to Joseph and Hazel Sumner. JoAnn was the middle of three girls and loved her sisters, Sally and Judy. JoAnn grew up in Non, Oklahoma and attended Ft. Cobb Public School. According to her sister, Sally, growing up on their family farm created several funny stories and precious memories!
JoAnn married her true love, Ronnie “Sonny” McCauley on June 16, 1955 at the age of 15. They were married for 63 wonderful years. After marriage, Sonny and JoAnn moved to Lubbock, TX where both of their children, Ronnie Jr. and Brenda were born. Eventually Sonny and JoAnn returned to Ft. Cobb, OK where they have resided for much of their marriage. JoAnn loved to work as a beautician. She enjoyed fixing lady’s hair in the community as well as enjoying all the “gossip” that flows through a beauty shop full of women from time to time. JoAnn also loved her sisters. She enjoyed spending as much time as she could with Sally and Judy. Some of her fondest times were spent laughing and enjoy a meal or two at Georgia’s in Carnegie with them. JoAnn was very proud of her Native American culture. She loved being Choctaw! JoAnn also loved being a mom to Ronnie and Brenda. She was very involved in their school and extracurricular activities. Being a mom was one of JoAnn’s happiest times; however, the beam in her eye will always be her grandchildren and great grandchildren. JoAnn would say on more than one occasion that being called “Nana” made her the happiest! JoAnn loved all of her grandchildren and they were close to “perfect” in her eyes!
JoAnn is survived by the love of her life, Ronnie “Sonny” McCauley, Sr., two children, Ronnie McCauley, Jr. of Ft. Cobb, OK and Brenda Smith, and her husband Rick, of Ft. Cobb, OK. 8 grandchildren, Justin Miller and wife Holly of Chickasha, OK., Trey McCauley and wife Valerie of Chickasha, OK., Joseph Epperley and wife, Danielle of Houston, TX, Madison Skinner and husband, Dillan of Carnegie, Richelle Scrivner of Edmond, OK, Josh Smith and wife Courtney of Oklahoma City, OK, Zack Smith and wife Kaitlyn of Ft. Cobb, OK, and Shane Smith, Brayden Smith, and Allyson Smith of Plano, Tx. JoAnn is also survived by her beloved sister, Sally Shinaberry of Carnegie, OK and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Hazel Sumner and one sister, Judy Ernst.
At this time, the family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at the Carnegie Nursing Home as well as the wonderful medical team at Carnegie Tri-County Municipal Hospital. The compassion and love that you have shown to our Nana during the last few days, weeks, and months of her life have been second to none and we cannot thank you enough!
Our Nana was a God-fearing, classy, beautiful and strong lady. She was the rock of our family and loved all of us fiercely. We will miss her forever but have great peace in knowing this is not goodbye but “see you soon.”
