Obituary for Mary Ruth McCathern

Mary Ruth McCathern, 75, a life long resident of Anadarko, passed from this life on Friday, February 15, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mary was born April 25, 1943 in Anadarko to Johnie Franklin and Lucille (Hardesty) Myers. Mary attended and graduated Anadarko High School and then attended Cameron University in Lawton where she received her LPN license. Mary married Glen McCathern on September 3, 1966 in Anadarko. She worked at the Anadarko Hospital for several years and also at Silvercrest Nursing Home for awhile. After the birth of their daughter, Glenda, not only was she her mother but also her nurse for 32 years. She was totally devoted to Glenda and took great care of her. Mary had such a caring and giving heart. She acquired the name "Sweet Mary" because she could be quite the prankster with family but at the same time would give anyone the shirt off her back.

Mary enjoyed vegetable gardening which allowed her to cook special home cooked meals. She liked crocheting, spending time with her nieces and nephews, other family and just staying at home watching talk shows that kept her up to date on world events as well as being on the phone, which was a main priority in her life. Mary was a member of the Midway Baptist Church and will be greatly missed by her family.

Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Ralph & Carolyn Myers of Anadarko; nephew, Justin & Kim Myers of Anadarko; niece, Jamie & Mark Johnson of Norman; numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen; daughter, Glenda and sister-in-law, Arvella Myers.

Graveside services are at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko. Laurie and Chris Stinnett will officiate. Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Anadarko.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude PL, Memphis, ZTN 38105-9959
