Obituary for Roger Slater

Roger Slater, 73, passed away at his home in Elgin, Oklahoma after an extended illness on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. He was born in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Leo and Wanda (Miller) Slater. He attended school at Alden before transferring to Carnegie Schools. He joined the U.S. Army in 1962 and served till 1967 in Germany. He married Anita Clark on June 20, 1968 in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Roger worked for O.N.G., as a meter technician, for 34 years. He was a long time Anadarko resident where he was very active in youth sports. He coached little league baseball and served as President of Summer Youth Program. Roger enjoyed being outside and loved to hunt, fish and go camping. In his spare time he liked to watch the old westerns on television. After his retirement he moved to Elgin, Oklahoma in 2004. His greatest love in life was his family and he adored his grandchildren and his dog, Sadie. He had a very big heart and was always quick to help others. He always thought of others first and never complained about any of his own troubles. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the International Order of Odd Fellows.

He is survived by:
His wife of 50 years, Anita Slater, of the home in Elgin, OK
1 son and daughter-in-law, Chance and Robin Slater, Elgin, Ok
2 grandchildren; Connor Slater and Chandler Slater, Elgin, OK
1 sister: Linda Clinton, Fort Cobb, OK


He was preceded in death by his parents; Leo and Wanda Slater; his sister, Lorietta Landes and his brother, Ronnie Slater.



Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 29, 2019
First Baptist Church, Anadarko, OK
Officiating: Rev. Lynn Bellamy

Howie Jackson

Interment: Memory Lane Cemetery, Anadarko, OK

Services under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Anadarko, Oklahoma.
