Obituary for Xuma Lafern Schlegel

Xuma Lafern McDonald Schlegel of Anadarko, Oklahoma was called home by the Lord on Wednesday, October 9. 2019 at her home in Anadarko. Xuma was born July 10, 1928 in Fort Cobb to Joseph and Lennie (Ford) McDonald.

Xuma married Marvin Schlegel in 1948 in Carnegie, Oklahoma. They moved to Los Angeles where they lived for 32 years. Their five children were all born there. They moved back to Caddo County in 1980 and made their home in Anadarko. She went to work at Sunset Elementary School in 1981 as crossing guard and a teacher's aide. She retired in 1993, and devoted her time to her children, grandchildren, gardening and many other hobbies.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Marvin Schlegel of the home; four children: Lara Bridges, Lona Musik, Lisa Taylor and husband, Jon and Mark Schlegel and wife, Pam; eight grandchildren: Kristi, Renee, Aleah, Will, Matthew, Malachi, Jon and Jack; two great grandchildren: Jesse and Rebecca and two great great grandchildren: Sallie Jane and Alastair; sisters: Francis Milam and husband, Sam of Tuttle, Linda Love and husband, Leroy, Katie Forster and husband, Larry, all of Anadarko; two brothers: Ben McDonald and wife, Faye of Guthrie, Oklahoma and Ford McDonald and wife, Janet of Ogden, Utah along with other relatives and friends.

Xuma is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lynn; sisters: Emma Jane, Ruth McDonald Trotter, Betty Gage, Jessie Greer and an infant sister; two brothers: Walter McDonald and J.C. McDonald.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Anadarko. Pastor Larry Steverson of Tuttle Heritage Baptist Church will officiate.
