Alita Maxine Horn

Alita Maxine Rogers Horn was born on March 1, 1933, in Washita, Oklahoma, to Jimmy & Winnie Rogers and passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at the age of 92. She was the only daughter with 4 brothers, who have all preceded her in death. Alita grew up in church and surrendered her life to Christ at an early age. She was in the last graduating class of Washita High School in 1951, where she lettered in basketball. She married Oris Leo (Bub) Horn on August 30, 1952. They had two children, Connie Lee and Judy Marlene. She was later blessed with a son in law, Robin Palesano, and two grandchildren, Jordan Palesano DuBois and Ryan Palesano. After a few years staying home with her family, Alita along with her sister-in-law, Nancy Horn, began her college career in 1965, enrolling at USAO in Chickasha. Alita graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1969 and began a 22-year career teaching Home Economics, starting in Cyril and finishing most of her teaching years at Anadarko High School. Alita was an excellent seamstress; she made most of Judy’s clothes from birth and continued sewing for her grandkids for many years. One of Alita’s most popular designs was the Conrad Birdie suit, worn by Perry Beverage, she made for Anadarko High School’s production of ‘Bye Birdie.’ During her summer vacations, and then after retiring, Alita was an avid traveler, both in the United States and throughout Europe. She made trips with many of her family members and friends. She was also an avid reader and card player, namely Pitch and Bridge. She loved to cook and enjoyed family reunions and get-togethers. Many family members will never forget her unique and contagious laugh that would fill whatever room she was in. One of her most popular HomeEc fundraisers was her creation of cinnamon rolls that she taught her students to make and sell between classes. Alita was a member of First Baptist Church of Anadarko for decades, taught Sunday School until she was 80 years old, and also taught one Sunday per month at the local Baptist Indian Mission. She also was a cook and sponsor for many years at Falls Creek. She was very successful at convincing family members to join her in cooking at Falls Creek. She also was a volunteer at many Vacation Bible Schools and she served on various committees at the church and in education. She is loved and celebrated by a multitude of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Jimmy and Winnie Rogers; her husband, Bub Horn, four brothers Raymond Rogers and wife Pernetta, Wilford Rogers, Virgil Rogers and wife Midge, and Alvin Rogers; Glen Horn, Hillard and Nancy Horn, Barbara and Don Skipworth, and Milton Smith. Alita is survived by her daughters Connie Lee Horn, of Anadarko; Judy Palesano and husband, Robin of Jenks; grandchildren Jordan DuBois and husband Curtis of Tulsa and Ryan Palesano and wife Lu of Oklahoma City; two sisters-in-law Bette Rogers of Anadarko, and Hazel Smith of Ft Cobb. She is survived by her much-loved great-grandchildren Devereaux, Daphne, Ivy DuBois, and Silas and Austin Palesano. Alita is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to Reaching Souls International in Oklahoma City, where her son-in-law Robin has served for the last 17 years.
