Alva Lawrence Smith

Rev. Alva Lawrence Smith, 73 , of Anadarko, was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2012, at Comanche Memorial Hospital in Lawton, with his family by his side. He was born September 15, 1938 to Julius and Richenda (Hendrix) Smith in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of Chilocco Indian School in New Kirk and attended one year at ARK Junior College in ARK. He joined the United States Air Force on September 11, 1961 and received an honorable discharge on September 10, 1967. He served during the Vietnam Era. He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Lewis on December 23, 1964 in Denver, Colorado, from this union was born two children. He worked at Rocky Mountain Rubber Company, the Goldburge Company and the U. S. Gerolegica Survey in Aurora, Colorado. He retired and moved back to Anadarko where he worked for the Wichita Tribe. He has been a very devoted Pastor of Rock Springs Indian Baptist Church for over thirty years. His greatest love was for the Lord and his family. He had nick names for not only his family but his church family also, His last nick name was given to Tiki Swift, which was "Bronco". He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing praises to God, reading and traveling west. His hobby was doing Silver work. He really got excited when he saw God change the lives of many he and their church family had prayed for. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Norma of the home. one daughter, Anita Robin Goombi and husband, Steven of Shawnee, OK. one son, John Christopher Smith of Anadarko, OK, one grandson, Preston Goombi, two granddaughters, Saraya Goombi and Felicia "Rosita" Goombi of Shawnee and one granddaughter, Jade Goombi of Gracemont, OK. many other grandchildren and great grandchildren, a speical niece, Myra Smith of Anadarko, OK, two brothers, Phillip Major Smith of Clinton, OK, Farley Smith and wife, Beverly of Anadarko, OK. two sisters, Gwendolyn Lewis of Anadarko, OK and Marcella Ruckman and husband, Richard of Anadarko, Ok and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Julius Cesar Smith and mother, Richenda Hendrix Smith. Prayer service: 6:30 P. M., Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Rock Springs Indian Baptist Church, services: 11:00 A. M., Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Bethel Baptist Church, Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery, Anadarko, OK, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home. Anadarko, OK
