Kathleen Byrne Cook Winsted

Mrs. Kathleen Byrne Cook Winsted, 87, of Anadarko, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at her home in Anadarko. She was born April 25, 1923 in Shawnee, Ohio to Gerald Joseph Byrne and Margaret O'Donnell Byrne. Kathleen graduated from Shawnee Ohio High School in 1941 and then moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she worked for Ford Tractor. She married Harry Ray Cook, Jr. on September 4, 1948, and they moved to Anadarko at the end of 1949 and opened Harry R. Cook Ford-Mercury. He preceded her in death in 1957. Kathleen married Frank Winsted on July 17, 1969. He preceded her in death in 1994. Kathleen was active in many clubs, including the Gladiolus Flower Club and different bridge clubs. She was a Master Flower Show Judge for many years. She was a Cub Scout Den mother and Camp Fire Leader when her children were young. She was on the Board of Directors for Indian City and on the Cemetery Board for many years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church for 61 years and a charter member of Friends of St. Patrick's. She loved to play bridge, spend time with her family and go to her grandchildren's school activities and cheer on her Sooners. She was good to so many people. Survivors include two sons: Harry R. Cook III and wife, Brenda of Duluth, Georgia and Michael Byrne Cook and wife, Glenda of Norman, Oklahoma, one daughter, Carolyn Cantrell and husband, Tom, of Anadarko, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren: Christie Cook of Norman, Kelly McCollom and husband, Jerrett of McKinney, Texas, Thomas Cantrell and Joseph Cantrell both of Edmond, Oklahoma, Allison Cook of Atlanta, Georgia, Matthew Cook of Los Angeles, California, Kerrie Cantrell of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Kathleen "Katie" Cantrell of Anadarko, Oklahoma, three great grandchildren, Chloe and Shaden of Anadarko and Macy Lou of McKinney, Texas.Two sisters: Dr. Geraldine Matranga of San Luis Obispo, California and Patricia Allerton of Columbus, Ohio also survive her. A Rosary will be said on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at Smith Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be said for Kathleen on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anadarko at 10:00 A.M. Services conducted by Smith Funeral Home, Anadarko, Oklahoma.
