Theda Arnetta (Turley) Steverson

Theda Arnetta (Turley) Steverson was born on July 6, 1929, in Altus, Oklahoma, to William Perry “Dub” Turley and Thelma Arnetta (Savage) Turley, She entered her eternal rest on January 5, 2025, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, at the age of 95. Theda and her family moved to Anadarko in 1930. She graduated from Anadarko High School class of 1947.Theda was a member of several civic organizations including, Quilters Guild, Garden Club, Lions Club, and Gideons International. She worked as a clerk for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for thirty-five years. Theda married Carl Steverson on September 20, 1948. The two along with Carl’s twin brother Arol helped start Bethel Baptist Church as a mission, where she was a charter member. She had the heart of a servant and gave of herself selflessly to the congregation. Theda was truly a Bible scholar, she loved to learn the Bible and teach it to others. She encouraged, taught, and uplifted others as a gifted Sunday School teacher for many years. After retirement, Theda and Carl started TC Travels, a travel agency in Anadarko. They would spend the next twenty years assisting others with travel and seeing many beautiful places around the world. The two shared a beautiful life and made wonderful memories for nearly sixty-one years before his passing in June of 2009. Theda was a gifted person in many ways. She enjoyed creating with her hands and could sew, quilt and embroidery beautifully. She was a great joke teller. Theda was an amazing cook and loved to cook for ministers, families, and church potlucks; she was always feeding someone. She had a heart for hospitality and was always putting the needs of others above her own. She went above and beyond to make sure others had what they needed and encouraged them in the hope of the Lord. Theda was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Nin, and great Nin. Her family was her greatest accomplishment and she lived a godly example before them daily. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sherry Holdge and husband Dennis of Chickasha, Carla Narcomey and husband Pat of Mineral Wells, Texas, Robin Jones and husband Larry of Weatherford, Oklahoma, brother, Mack Turley of Abilene, Texas, sister, Mona Warren and husband Ancil of Edmond, Oklahoma, grandchildren, Dustin Holdge and wife Amy, Cory Holdge and wife Bege, Jill Tunnell and husband Jesse, and Tod Narcomey and wife Tygre, and great grandchildren, Derek, Max, Brylinn, Mary, Briah, Izzy, Adam, Cara, Maevri, Joy, Deacon, Bear, Sam, Evelyn, Amos, Hannah, Theodore, and baby on the way. Along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Theda is preceded in death by her parents WP “Dub” and Thelma Turley, husband, Carl Steverson, brothers, Scott Turley and William Derrill Turley, and nephew Loren Mack Turley. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Gideons International. A memorial service for Theda is set to be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church in Anadarko. Theda will be laid to rest privately by family at Memory Lane Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
