Graveside services for Walter Owen, 95, will be held at the Fort Cobb cemetery on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Services are under the direction of Fort Cobb Funeral Home with Alec Dyer officiating. Family visitation will be Wednesday, October 19 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Fort Cobb Funeral Home.Walter was born July 9, 1927, in Fort Cobb, OK and passed away October 17, 2022 on the same land where he was born. Walter grew up in Fort Cobb on Gawkey Creek and farmed with his father until he married the love of his life, Jean Bauman in 1951. Walt and Jean were happily married until her death in 2004. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Peck, Kansas where he worked in a aircraft factory. Later, the couple moved to Oklahoma City where Walter worked in construction. Walter and Jean returned to Fort Cobb, where he was employed by Caddo County and was able to resume farming the family land. Upon their return to Fort Cobb, Walter and Jean adopted three children that were the light of their lives. Walter always said that the secret to staying young was to never sit down and he truly embodied that statement. He was still actively enjoying farming and crafting with his daughter until the week of his death. Walter especially enjoyed noodling, checking cattle, hunting, and playing chickenfoot, and was fortunate to have friends who would join him each week for dominoes. He was quite the practical joker, especially when his sisters were involved. Most importantly, Walter loved the Lord and lived his life as a faithful servant. He would talk about the Bible with anyone who listened â€" and may have run off some of his home health aides because he wanted to make sure they were right with God. His family takes comfort in having no doubt that Walter received his heavenly reward. Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his parents, Floyd and Lily Owen; his brother, Ray Owen; and his infant sister, Edna Owen, brother in lawâ€™s, Roy Jackson and Melvin McMillinWalter is survived by his sisters, Velma Jackson of Oklahoma City and Lois McMillin of Ada; three children - Tony Owen and wife, Tara of Carnegie, Larry Owen and wife, Michelle of Huntsville, Texas, and Cheryl Smith and husband, Scott of Fort Cobb; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
