William "Bill" Edward McDonald

William “Bill” Edward McDonald was born on April 29th, 1951, in Watonga, Oklahoma, to Ervin and Ola (Shoopman) McDonald. He left us December 12th, 2024, at his home in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma. Bill spent his childhood growing up in Okeene, Oklahoma, where he was the baby of the four McDonald boys. His family often referred to him as "Billy" growing up, in his later adult life that was shortened to "Bill". As Bill ventured out on his own, he was bit by the oilfield bug, Oil ran through his veins leading to him working for various companies and eventually became a company man at the height of his career. During those years he was blessed with 3 kids, 2 son’s and a daughter. He loved using his hard-earned oilfield money to spoil the kids. He gave them horses, motorcycles, and loved taking some amazing family vacations. In 1985 Bill was involved in a car accident that almost cost him his life, he fought hard and overcome every obstacle placed in front of him. After the wreck he hung up his hard hat, retired his work boots and soon settled into his new title of Grandpa. He spent his grandpa days drinking Coca Cola and watching old western movies. Occasionally sneaking his grandkids money, candy, or his favorite snack Pringles potato chips, while laughing and telling them not to tell their parents. He always had something waiting to sneak his grandkids when they visited him and every one of them knew it, straight to his room they would go. One of his favorite grandpa past times was to torment the grandkids with a glass eye he had received from an oilfield accident during his career. Some of us thought it was so awesome, the rest found it just a tad gross, he got a kick out of it though. Through all of the ups and downs he had in life one thing was for sure, he was a cherished father, grandfather and great grandfather. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Ola McDonald, a niece Tina McDonald, a granddaughter Jessica Kotulsky and a great granddaughter Raylynn Lyday. Bill is survived by brothers, Troy McDonald of Enid, Oklahoma, Roger McDonald of Missoula, Montana, and Cobby McDonald of Stafford, Virginia; daughter, Sherry and Husband Don Lyday of Fort Cobb, Oklahoma; sons, Derek and Wife Lena Mcdonald of Harrah, Oklahoma, and Chris McDonald of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Tiffany and Husband Ralph Stolhand of Wichita Falls, Texas, Dustin Lyday and fiancé Brittany of Del City, Oklahoma, Bailey Lyday of Del City, Oklahoma, Amy and husband Chris Wetterlund of Moore, Oklahoma, James and Wife Ashley McDonald of Harrah, Oklahoma, David McDonald of Harrah Oklahoma, Brookyln Lister Of Panama City Beach, Virginia, Dillon Mccalip of Mt Vernon, Missouri, Brett Wallis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Emma McDonald of Moore, Oklahoma. Along with 22 great grandkids and 1 great-great granddaughter, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. A viewing will be held Sunday, December 15, 2024, beginning at 3 PM at the Smith Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
